A business intelligence consultant, also known as a BI consultant, is the designated person who bridges the gap between business intelligence (information about competition, customers, markets, etc.) from different systems. The business intelligence consultant advises on the basis of the connections about, for example, the work processes within an organization. Business intelligence concerns a wide range of activities. Collecting data within your own organization / trading activity is one of these. Usually it is about financial data or data about products, customers etc. The purpose of collecting and analyzing this data is to support decisions within the business based on data or intelligence.
Activities Business Intelligence Consultant
A business intelligence consultant has a wide range of activities, a few of which are:
* Analyze and identify business processes
* Develop and maintain technical and functional documentation (dashboards and reports)
* Performing data analysis using applications such as Microsoft Business Intelligence, Qlikview, SAS, Cognos, Oracle BI Suite and Business Objects
* Setting up, maintaining and expanding the data warehouse (DWH)
* Development of ETL software and reports.
* Preparation of conceptual and logical data models (with SQL databases, Dimensional Modeling and Data Vault)
* Testing the implementation of the data warehouse
* Providing advice to stakeholders and management, among others
Education Business Intelligence Consultant
To get started as a business intelligence consultant you must generally have completed a study such as:
* Business Informatics (WO)
* Business Analytics (BA) (wo)
* Business IT & Management (HBO)
* Technical Business Administration (HBO / WO)
